PROFESSOR J.O. ODELOLA holds Grade II Teachers Certificate (1981), Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) (Physical and Health Education) (1985), Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Physical and Health Education from prestigious University of Ibadan, Ibadan (1992), Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Health Education from University of Ibadan, Ibadan (1994) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Education from University of Ibadan, Ibadan (2004). He is a licensed teacher with the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria. He taught at all levels of Education in Nigeria: Primary School, Secondary School, College of Education, Polytechnic and currently at University. While at College of Education he rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer before transferring his service in 2009 to University of Ibadan. He assumed duty as a lecturer II in the then Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

He is an expert in the areas of Health Promotion, Safety Education, Curriculum Studies including Test, Measurement and Evaluation. His research works in the field of Health Education are specially focused on Health Teaching, Family Life Education, Health Education Intervention Programme for health risk behaviour and Health Education Curriculum Design and Implementation. He used Family Life Education as Intervention for teenage pregnancy, Population Increase and Perceived Threats to Marital Life. Part of his contributions in the area led to the recommendation of policy statement that family life education should be part of counselling programme usually provided for those going into marriage.

His research studies examined violence, multiple sexual partners, drug abuse, indecent dressing and smoking among adolescents in different levels of education. The outcome of his research effort has policy implication for government at all levels “to make all schools health promoting environment for meaningful teaching and learning to take place”. In his research studies he examined Primary and Secondary School Health Education Curricular Planning and Implementation procedures with a view to showing that adequate space and provision of such inputs as personnel, funds and materials would enhance curriculum implementation. He is a prolific writer and researcher with over eighty (80) publications in reputable national and international journals.

Administratively, he was a Games Master in primary and secondary schools where he taught and organized inter-house sports. He raised teams in football, athletics, handball, basketball and volleyball that won trophies in competitions. At College of Education, he served as Sub-dean and Head of Department. At the University of Ibadan, he was a Level Coordinator in the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education for 100 level to 400 level including Postgraduate programmes. He is currently Head of Department of Health Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan. In the Faculty of Education, he served as SubDean (Undergraduate), Examination Monitoring Committee and Member, Teaching Practice Committee. He was Assistant Hall Warden for Independence Hall, University of Ibadan and currently member, University of Ibadan SERVICOM. He served on many occasions as facilitator at UNICEF Organized Training Programmes. He is a facilitator for African Leadership and Management Training for Impact in Malaria Eradication (ALAMIME). He served as Chairman, Landlords and Landladies Association Ibukun Oluwa Community, Osogbo for six years. He is a member, Nigeria Association of Health Educators (NAHE), School Health Educators and Professionals Association in Nigeria (SHEPAN) and International Council for Health, Physical Education, Sport, Recreation and Dance.
