LIS 219: Children’s Literature                                                                               (2 Units: 30)

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of the course, students should be able to: 

1. define children literature;

2. explain the characteristics of children literature;

3. distinguish between children literature and oral tradition;

4. understand children’s imaginative literature: folk and fairy tales, realistic stories, poetry and drama;

5. understanding other children programmes. Story hours, reading promotion, clubs, societies;

6. electronic sources of children literature.

Course Content           

Definition of children literature, explanation of characteristics of children literature, distinguishing between children literature and oral tradition, understanding children’s imaginative literature: folk and fairy tales, realistic stories, poetry and drama, understanding other children programmes. Story hours, reading promotion, clubs, societies; identifying electronic sources of children literature.
