History of Adult Education in Industrialized Countries

Survey of the origins, growth and development of adult education movement in industrialized countries from the middle ages. The course will examine the major social, economic and political factors that have contributed to the fortunes of adult education enterprise in the countries. Attention will be drawn to case studies and specific biographical issues including the issue of Grundtvig's 18th Century Danish Folk High School and Coady's 19th Century Antigonish movements.
