1. Duration of Course

Three- year programme for NCE candidates who obtained their NCE certificates in Health Education, Home Economics, Integrated Science, Biology and Agricultural science; and four-year programme for UME candidates.

2. Objectives of the Programme:

The B.Ed programme in Health Education is designed to provide candidates with a high level of intellectual and professional skills that will enable them function effectively as professionals and as people who can adapt to the changing situation in the nation. Specifically, the programme is intended to:

(a) produce high teachers capable of handling at least two subjects at the primary, JSS and SSS levels;

(b) provide personnel for leadership positions in the different sectors of the education system of the country;

(c) produce highly qualified and motivated health teachers for the Pre-Primary, Primary, JSS and SSS of Nigerian educational system and health personnel for other non-school agencies/Institutions requiring their skill and expertise;

(d) expose the students to a variety of social and physical health problems and to encourage them to develop spirit of enquiry and creativity which will enable them function effectively;

(e) help them adopt healthy life style which will enhance their quality of life. This will make them excellent models for the pupils and students they will teach;

(f) prepare them to fit into the social life of Nigerian community and to enhance their commitment to the attainment of the national health objectives.

Master of Education Degree Programme in Human Kinetics Education

Objective

In accordance with developments in Human Kinetics Education necessitating the introduction of advanced studies, a Master’s degree programme is proposed to train high level personnel in various fields of Human Kinetics Education. The courses are structured to achieve the following aims and objectives:

1. To provide students with the Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Kinetics Education or Physical Education with the opportunity for specialization in some aspect of Human Kinetics with special relevance to the needs of Nigeria in its manpower development.

2. To provide opportunity for improvement in depth and training in techniques beyond first degree level for those who envisage a career in research, teaching and coaching.

Regulations

1. A programme of courses lasting eighteen months shall be provided leading to a Master in Human Kinetics Education to be denoted by the letters M.Ed. in Human Kinetics Education

2. Admission Requirements

Admission to the programme shall normally be open to:

(i) Graduates of the University of Ibadan in Human Kinetics and Health Education and of other approved Universities in Human Kinetics Education recognized by Senate.
(ii) Candidates with degrees in discipline other than the above who possess, in addition, postgraduate diploma in Human Kinetics Education (P.G.P.E.).
(iii) Such other candidates whose qualification and/or experience the Senate may deem adequate and satisfactory.
(iv) Admission to the programme shall normally be at the beginning of session

3. Registration Requirements:

(i) The Master’s degree programmes of the Department are subject to the University regulations regarding higher degrees.
(ii) For the degree of Master in Human Kinetics Education there shall be course work at 700 level.
(iii) All candidates must register for not less than 30 units and not more than 45 courses unit as the 700 level. They must be credited with a total of at least 30 units to qualify for the award of a degree.

4. Duration of the Programme

(i) The Master in Human Kinetics Education shall normally last a minimum of three semesters of full time study. Where candidate spends more than the prescribed period, he shall renew his registration at the beginning of each year and must complete within 6 semesters after the registration.
(ii) All candidates must register for a minimum of 30 units and maximum of 45 courses units at the 700 level.
Each candidate will be expected to select his course to satisfy the requirements for one and only one of the specialization options.
(iii) Specialized in Movement Science
This concentration is designed around a core of science courses in Human Kinetics Education with sub- specialization in either physiology of exercise, biomechanics or motor learning. It will provide a degree of breadth and specialization in these Movement Sciences. Students will be prepared for work research and teaching in appropriate agencies schools, or at the college level in the area of sub-specialization.

All candidates are expected to have an undergraduate background in Human Kinetics Education or Physical and Health education. The following courses are undergraduate requirements, and if not already included in the graduate students previous preparation are required although they do not carry graduate credit.

Each candidate is required to specialize in one of the following:

(1) Organization and Administration of Human Kinetics and Sports
(2) Sociology and Psychology of Sports
(3) Recreation and Leisure Management
(4) Physiology of Exercise
(5) Biomechanics in Physical Education
(6) Motor learning in physical Education

5. Compulsory Courses:

All students for the M.Ed (Human Kinetics Education) programme must take and pass all the following courses irrespective of the area of specialization KHE 701, KHE 702,KHE 703, KHE 704 KHE 705, KHE 713and KHE 760.

MPhil/Ph.Din Human Kinetics Education

Objectives:

The MPhil degree programme in Human Kinetics Education is proposed to provide academic research and field experience opportunities to M.Ed graduates in Human Kinetics Education who are unable to acquire a grade of proceed to Ph.D or those with similar qualifications in other related discipline of the University of Ibadan and other Universities recognized by senate of this University.

1. Duration of the Programme

The MPhil in Human Kinetics Education shall normally last a minimum of four semesters for full time students.
Students are expected to specialize in any of the following:
(a) Organisation and Administration of Human Kinetics Education and Sports
(b) Recreation and Leisure Management
(c) Biomechanics
(d) Motor Learning
(e) Exercise Physiology
(f) Sociology and Psychology of Sports

Registration Requirements
1. The programme consists of course work in KHE 800 level and dissertation.
2. Courses shall be evaluated over a maximum of 100 marks.
3. The conditions of registration from time to time should be in line with conditions of the Postgraduate
School (Mphil Terminal)
Compulsory Core courses for all specializations

The Students are required to take the following core courses for all specializations: KHE 801,802 and 803

6. Sociology and Psychology of Sports KHE 821,822,823, 824, 825, 826, 827, 828, 830.

Dissertation
Candidates shall be required to carry out their researches under appointed supervisors. Examination and submission of dissertations shall be in accordance with rules and regulations of Postgraduate School.
