Also, in January, 2018 the Department of Adult Education organized International Literacy Conference between 23-26 January, 2018 with the theme: Literacy for Sustainable National Development.

In August, 2016 Department of Adult Education host World Conference on Adult Education with the theme: Repositioning Adult Education for Greater Relevance in a Globalised World from 8-12 August, 2016.

UPDATE ON CONFERENCES

He is a member of Professional Associations and Community based organisations including Nigerian National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE), Ifetedo Progressive Union (IPU), Society for International Development (SID), and Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE), among others.

Delegate to UNESCO, High level meeting on Literacy Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE) Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia in 2008; Maputo, Mozambique in 2009, and Niger Republic in 2010.  He was also delegate to the International Conference on Early Childhood Care and Development in Hawai Honolulu United States 2010, in Moscow, Russia, 2011 and Shanghai, China in 2012, Delegate to African  Congress of Cattle Breeders Association in Dakar Senegal 2014, and UNESCO Sustainable Development Preparatory Meeting  in Incheon, South Korea 2015.

Delegate to International Conference of Distance Education, Delhi, India in 1999 and ICDE in Kochi Karela, India 2002, delegate to World Education Forum, Dakar, Senegal in 2000,  delegate to Conference on the Application of ICT to Literacy in Kashuhe, Germany in 2002, delegate to EFA Mid-term Review Meeting, in Bamako, Mali in 2007, delegate to Pan Commonwealth Forum Celebrating University of London 150 years of External Studies in 2008;  Nigeria delegate to Africa Regional Meeting on CONFINTEA in Adis-Ababa Ethiopia 2008,  Literacy Assessment Practice in Hamburg, Germany 2008,delegate to the International Conference on Adult Education and Development, CONFINTEA VI, Belem, Brazil in 2009. Member, Nigeria delegates to the 2011 36th Session of the UNESCO General Conference, Paris.UNESCO.Delegate to Africa Minister of Education Forum MINIDAF in Ruwanda  2012,Consultant to UNESCO Sponsored Sudan Basic Education Study in 2001, High Level UNESCO Conference on the Application of Media to the delivery of Literacy, Nairobi, Kenya, in 2017.

Professor Aderinoye has attended many academic conferences outside the country and has served as government delegates to many inter-government bi-lateral and multi-lateral meetings. He was a fellow of British Council to the 1995 International Council for  Distance Education,(ICDE) Conference Birmingham, United Kingdom, UNESCO Fellow to University of Pennsylvania, United States of America, UNESCO Summer Literacy Training Programme at University of Pennsylvania, United States of America, 1997. Delegate to University of Ibadan and University of Nottingham, United Kingdom Links Programme at University of Nottingham, October – November 1998.

In government, Prof. Aderinoye has served in various capacities: he was a member of defunct Oyo State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, 1986-89; Osun State Pilgrim Welfare Board, 1994-1996. He was appointed Deputy Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) from 2010 to 2013 and Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) from 2014 to 2016. Secretary Ministerial Committee on Madrassa Education 2010 to 2013, Member JAMB  Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) 2017 and 2018.Member Universal Basic Education Commission 2014 to 2016, Member  UNESCO Committee on Revitalisation of Adult and Youth Literacy (RAYL)2011 to 2017. Currently, a Member of the Governing Council of the National Teacher’s Institute, Kaduna. 

 Professor Aderinoye has published in books, chapters in books and journal articles as well as conference proceedings. Outside the university, he has served in different capacities: External examiner and Assessor of academic staff to the rank of Readers and Professors to University of Port Harcourt, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Bayero University Kano, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, University of Calabar, University of Abuja and Ibrahim Babangida University, Lapai. He has also served in this capacity to some Universities outside Nigeria: They are: University of Ghana, Legon, Fourah-Bay College, Sierra-Leone, and University of Malaysia. He has equally served as review editor to the International Journal of Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning between (IRRODL), 1998 to 2003.

 Acting Director, Centre for Literacy Training and Development for Africa (CLTDPA), from 2004 to 2006, Acting Head of Department, Adult Education, 2009. He was Senate representative at the board of Distance Learning Centre, 1998. He is a member of Senate of the University, Chairman Local Organising Committee on International Conference on Literacy of Department of Adult Education January 2018 and Chairman Faculty of Education International Conference on Education 2030 Agenda. June 2018.

 Professor Aderinoye joined the Academic staff of the Department of Adult Education, University of Ibadan on 23 June 1993 as Lecturer II, was promoted to Lecturer Grade 1 in 1996, Senior Lecturer in 1999, Reader 2003, and Professor in 2007. As an academic, he has conducted many research studies individually and jointly with colleagues in and out the Department. Professor Aderinoye has served the university in different capacity: he was appointed Assistant Hall Warden, Mellanby Hall in 1999 (the position he held for two terms), Faculty of Education links Programme committee member, 2005, Focal Person on Preventive Education against HIV/AIDS at UNESCO,Abuja 2001 to 2003, Member United Nations Development Assistance Framework(UNDAF)2001-2004

 Professor Rashid Adewumi Aderinoye was born in Ifetedo, into the family of Pa Sakariyau Aderinoye and Mama Sabitiu Ajimoti Aderinoye. Both parents were devoted Muslims. He started his education at the Ansar-ur-Deen primary school, Ifetedo and Local Authority Modern School. He later attended Ansar-ur-Deen Teacher Training College Ota, where he obtained the Grade II Teacher Certificate. He started his teaching career at Opeyeka primary school in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State in September 1973. He taught in many Primary and secondary schools in now Ogun,Oyo and Osun States. He later passed the General Certificate of Education at both Ordinary and Advanced levels in 1976 and 1978 respectively. He proceeded to the Premier University of Ibadan from 1979-1982 for his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree in Adult Education and Islamic Studies. He returned to the same university after the mandatory one year Youth Service for his Master of Education (M.Ed.) Degree  in 1984 and Doctoral of Philosophy (Ph.D) in 1992.
